BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The University of New England reports that just after 10am Thursday morning 7 students, 1 faculty member began to feel ill and light-headed. They also reported smelling gas while attending class in UNE's Marcil Hall on the Biddeford campus.
The building was quickly evacuated. Students, faculty members and an UNE security guard were transported to SMMC for a precautionary evaluation by Biddeford Ambulance.
The cause turned out to be two dry sewer lines. The lines were hydrated and the problem solved. Marcil Hall reopened at just after 11:00 am and classes have resumed. UNE will be taking the neccessary steps to prevent this problem from occurring again.
