(NEWS CENTER) - The final day of 2011 turned out to be one of the deadliest on Maine's Roads.
4 people died in three separate car crashes across the state Saturday.
Police say Andrew Klaiber, 47, from Topsham, died when he lost control of his Chevy Blazer on Route 201 in Bowdoin.
According to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Department, witnesses observed his vehicle driving erratically just before leaving the road and hitting a tree.
Police don't believe weather, speed or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
Maine State Police believe a patch of ice on the turnpike may have lead to the crash that killed a woman in the town of Edinburg.
Police say Xiao Lin Deng was driving north on I-95 when she lost control. Police say witnesses told them Deng's car was in the passing lane and may have hit an icy patch. She lost control, her car crossed the breakdown lane and went through a ditch, hitting a tree.
Deng's mother, Aizhi Gao, died in the crash. She was 63 years old.
No one else in the car was hurt.
Police don't believe illegal speeding was a factor.
In Gardiner, Dennis Kay, 62, and Carlton Norwood, 25, were both killed when their van went off Route 201 around 8:00 AM.
Neither was wearing his seatbelt.
Another person in the car survived the crash. The name has not been released. They were taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with undisclosed injuries.
Police say bad road conditions combined with high speed are to blame.
