Wellness Connection of Maine recalls two strains of medical marijuana

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) – The operator of four of Maine's eight medical marijuana dispensaries has voluntarily recalled two varieties of its cannabis due to high levels of microbes.

Wellness Connection of Maine said it is recalling a portion of a recent harvest of "Blue Dream" and "LA Confidential" after finding higher than acceptable microbe levels during lab tests.

The company said the small group of patients impacted will be contacted by mail. WCM is offering to refund the purchase price ore replace the product. It said it has not received any reports of adverse effects related to the use of the product.

Wellness Connection said there are no national standards for contamination of medical marijuana, which is legal at the state level, but still considered illegal in federal law. Wellness Connection said it tracks its medical marijuana from seed to sale as required by state law. The company also has set up its own testing procedures and quality standards that include the use of a third-party laboratory, which it says exceeds industry standards.
