ABERDEEN, Maryland (NBC) -- The mother of baseball hall of famer Cal Ripken Jr. is safe after being abducted at gunpoint Tuesday morning.
Police in Aberdeen, Maryland say 74-year old Violet Ripken was forced into her car by an armed man.
She was found Wednesday morning, nearly 24-hours later, still in the car near her home.
Mrs. Ripken was not injured and she is now resting at home with family.
Her children released a statement which read in part: "we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy."
Police say the motive for the kidnapping is unknown and they would not say if the suspect knew who he was abducting.
