COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. (KOAA) - A Colorado toddler is safe after being abandoned on an icy street by a carjacker. Anthony Pettiford says his car was stolen early Sunday morning with his 3-year-old son still inside.
Police searched the Colorado Springs area where the theft occurred, but were unable to locate the boy.
A short time later the boy rang the doorbell of Traci Gilbert.
Gilbert didn't see anyone when she looked out of her peephole, but decided to open the door anyway.
"And there was a little guy standing there holding a bag. Beautiful little boy. He looked frightened and confused, but calm and his hoodie was covered in snow and slush," she says.
Gilbert, a nurse, quickly checked the boy for any signs of harm, then called police.
She then sent her son out to find a police officer.
Gilbert says she was amazed that the boy made it up her ice-covered stairs.
Police are still searching for Pettiford's stolen car.
