PORTLAND, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- The nickelodeon theatre in Portland showed 5 short films and all the proceeds went to benefit 'Coalition To Salute America's Heroes.'
Close to 200 hundred people attended the event.
The featured film was directed by Falmouth native Nicholas Brennan. The movie is called, "A Marine's Guide to Fishing." It's about a veterans first 'alive day'-- the one year anniversary of the day he didn't die.
The lead actor is Mathew Pennington, a Maine veteran who knows a thing or two about the feeling of celebrating 'alive day.' He served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before losing his leg in an IED attack. While the plot of the film surrounds a young veteran settling back into society, Pennington says the underlying message that he hopes everyone walks away from after seeing the movie is to stay positive no matter the circumstances.
