BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Mayor Tom Menino has undergone knee surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon sustained in an accident at home. Menino's office announced that the mayor had the two-hour surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital on Monday after what was called a "misstep" at his home Sunday evening. Dr. Thomas Thornhill said doctors were able to repair the tendon directly back to the bone and did not have to use any supplemental material. Menino is expected to remain hospitalized for three to five days. Last week, Menino won an unprecedented fifth consecutive four-year term as mayor, defeating challenger Michael Flaherty.
