Local students gather almost 900 pounds of food for donation

South Portland kids gather 891 lbs of food for cupboard

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Students from Holy Cross School finished their annual food drive Tuesday.

The entire school, of all ages, got involved in the process of collecting food.
The collected non-perishable goods, which were then placed in heavy-duty banana boxes and sent off to the South Portland Food Cupboard.
The South Portland Food Cupboard actually has its roots at Holy Cross, but is now in its own building, because the need to distribute food to families that need it keeps growing, year after year.

"We've had a really successful drive. We do this each year -- to benefit the South Portland Food Cupboard. We have a relationship where our students go there one day a week and work to help families who are in need," said Bill Ridge with Holy Cross.

In all, students and their families donated 891 pounds of food.
