Oakland Police to move into needed new building

Oakland Police looking forward to new department.

OAKLAND, MAINE (NEWS CENTER) -- The Oakland Police Department is moving into their brand new police building Thursday. Oakland Police were in their old building for about 20 years before moving into a temporary building in the basement of the town offices.

Some of the changes with the new building include a processing area, interview rooms, and safety upgrades. The building also now complies with the ADA -- the process started back in 2015 and police are excited.

“You know the last hurdle for us is getting the phones, connected so we can start taking emergency calls, for service up in the new building soon as those are up we are leaving our 10 foot by 15 foot spot and heading into the building. Today’s been a long day waiting so we're excited about that” said Sergeant Tracey Frost with the Oakland Police Department.

The department hopes to be moved in by noon Thursday.
