(NBC NEWS) -- President Obama says he hasn't smoked a cigarette in six years.
He has said he stopped for his daughters, but after a United Nation's event Monday, an open microphone caught the President telling Kenya's former Human Rights Commissioner the real reason he hasn't lit up.
Obama: I hope you've quit smoking.
Kiai: sometimes. Have you?
Obama: yeah, unintelligible. No, no, I haven't in six years. That's because I'm scared of my wife.
It should be noted the president has publicly admitted to falling off the wagon when it comes to cigarettes, as recently as 2009.
