NEW YORK, NY (NBC) - Occupy Wall Street protestors are celebrating a milestone with a march around the New York Stock Exchange, the very place that inspired the movement one year ago.

"Happy birthday to occupy Wall Street. We've survived for a year and still facing a lot of resistance from police and principalities of power," said protestor Gio Andollo.

After twelve months of protests, arrests, and evictions the message is still the same.

"Our planet is being destroyed right now because the one percent are owning all the wealth," said protestor Daniel Goulden.

Veronica Taylor says she found a summer job out of state, but now that she is home, she says nothing has changed.

"I had to leave NY to get a job not enough jobs here banks are greedy they are getting bailed out and we are getting the short end of the stick," said Taylor

Taylor is one of the thousands who tried to block Wall Street employees from getting to work.

Police trying to keep order hauled several protestors away, but most remained peaceful and focused on keeping the momentum of Occupy Wall Street alive.
