PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- If you're looking for books to add to your summer reading list, maybe all you have to do is walk around your neighborhood.
Kristin Jordan is an avid reader and lover of books. To help spread that joy to her children and the community, she learned more about "Little Free Library", an international program that creates mini-libraries right in your neighborhood. Kristin has hers on the corner of Concord Street and Lawn Ave. in Portland, a dense area with lots of kids, people out walking their dogs, and parents walking their kids to school. She says a lot of people have stopped by to take a book or leave a book, then started a conversation with her about a particular book. Her hope is that this will spread to more communities across Maine since there are only a handful registered across the state.
