PORTLAND, Maine (News Center) -- May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. The timing is no concidence. The disease is transmitted to humans through ticks, and this is the start of ticks' most active season.
In most cases, if caught early, Lyme can be successfully treated with antibiotics. But some patients experience lingering symptoms that can last for months, years, even a lifetime. So the best defense against the disease is prevention.
