The Time Machine was written by H.G. Wells, who was born on Sept. 21, 1866.

The hero of his novel travels thousands of years into the future only to discover that humans have evolved into two separate races -- the Morlocks and the Eloi.

The meek, diminutive Eloi are hunted by the Morlocks for food.
