The mountain was named after Pres. William McKinley. He died on Sept. 14, 1901, a little more than a week after being shot.
The native people who live near the mountain know it by a different name. They call it Denali.
Leaders from Alaska have tried for years to make the native name official. But each time they submit their request, they get blocked by lawmakers from McKinley's home state of Ohio.
