b. MacGuffin

Hitchcock was born on Aug. 13, 1899.

Hitchcock specialized in making thrillers, and his plots often revolved around the search for some mysterious object.  He said it didn't really matter what the object was.  Its only real importance was to serve as a motivation for the characters and to move the plot forward.

Some famous movie MacGuffins include the sled in "Citizen Kane," the briefcase in "Pulp Fiction" or just about anything that Indiana Jones sets out to find.
