Nixon announced his resignation on Aug. 8, 1974. He is the only President ever to resign. His uncommon religious background also set him apart from most of his fellow Presidents.
It wasn't always easy for Nixon to find a middle ground between his politics and his religion. Quakers are taught to shun war and yet Nixon was Commander in Chief during Vietnam.
The only other Quaker to serve as President was Herbert Hoover.
