February 2 is Groundhog Day. The holiday's most famous forecaster, Punxsatawney Phil, saw his shadow, presaging six more weeks of winter weather this year.
Contrary to one of their alternate names, groundhogs do not chuck wood. The word "woodchuck" is actually an attempt by early European settlers to pronounce the Native American name for the animal.
