PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- This holiday season, it helps to get a friendly reminder about what can and cannot be recycled.

Missy Labbe from ecomaine, explains that when in doubt, you should always recycle as much as possible.

Labbe says bows and ribbons are usually non-recyclable, but if they're attached to the wrapping paper, ecomaine will take it and separate it themselves.

All wrapping paper, tissue paper, even gift bags are acceptable (of course, every recycling place can be different on what they accept, so you'll want to check with your local transfer station.)  If you live in southern Maine, you can find drop-off locations for ecomaine by heading to their website.

Styrofoam cannot be recycled, but cardboard can be, though it's best to knock it down into one flat piece.
