Mainers paddle for Pine Tree

SOLON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Mainers gathered at the Evergreens Campground in Solon on Saturday to paddle on the Kennebec River in support of the Pine Tree Society. Pine Tree provides a summer camp for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities.

People showed up in water gear ready to paddle six miles along the Kennebec to fundraise money for Pine Tree campers who need financial assistance. Each paddler had to raise a minimum of $100 to participate - and the campers appreciate all the help.

"It makes me feel awesome because we can still do the no turn away policy if all these people are paddling fro Pine Tree Camp!" said camper Nicholas Alexander.

More than 100 participants came out to the river on Saturday. It takes about $1,900 to send a camper to Pine Tree Camp. The first summer camp session starts June 17th.
