Woman stabbed in Rumford, lifeflighted to hospital

RUMFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A woman in Rumford was transported to the hospital Friday night after being stabbed, police in Oxford County said.

Rumford police said the 35-year-old Michelle Benavidez was stabbed on a sidewalk in front of 323 Cumberland Street around 5:45 p.m. They said she and a group of six to eight people were involved, and some involved were intoxicated.

Benavidez was lifeflighted to Central Maine Medical Center and her condition was not immediately known.

People who live and work in the area of the stabbing told NEWS CENTER it's not a good area.

Rumford police said the case is still under investigation, but advised the public that they were not in any danger at this point. They had not named any suspects as of 9:45 p.m.
