Winthrop murder suspect due in court

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Andrew Balcer will be making a court appearance at the Kennebec County Judicial Center Thursday afternoon.

Thursday is Balcer’s initial appearance where a judge will begin trying to determine whether the 17-year-old should be tried as an adult.

Police say he murdered his parents Antiono and Alice Balcer late last month at their Winthrop home on Pine Knoll Road.

He's charged with two counts of murder and has already undergone a psychiatric evaluation.

Because he's a juvenile, a lot of the details in this case are limited.

The state wants to try him as an adult.

His initial appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m.
