WINSLOW, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A warning from the Winslow Police Department to anyone who's used the internet to buy or sell something. Police said it's best to make these deals in their parking lot.
At the Winslow Police department, they've created an area with two parking spaces and signs that read "internet purchase exchange location”. Under that information it reads "this area is under video surveillance”.
This week officers here put out the warning that if you're going to conduct business online, at sites such as Craigslist or other internet exchange sites, you make the transactions at the police department where they said the area is under surveillance.
Winslow police said their goal is to make people "feel safe and secure" while making sure if a crime does occur that they will have the incident on camera.
Sites such as Craigslist gave some tips to avoid scams. They include dealing face to face, never giving out financial information and never wire funds.
