Man in Windham drives away from police, escapes on foot

WINDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Friday afternoon Windham Police stopped a red 2004 Ford Expedition on Rt. 302 for a traffic violation.

While trying to verify the identity of the operator, the vehicle sped off, leading officers in a high speed chase into Raymond. The operator stopped off of Rt. 85 in Raymond, and then fled into the woods on foot.

Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Westbrook Police Department assisted. A police K9 unit was sent out in an attempt to locate the operator, but was unsuccessful.

The operator of the car is described as a black male, 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall, weighing between 190 and 200 lbs. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Windham Police continue to investigate the incident - anyone with information should contact them at 892-5252.
