Westbrook coach appears in court on gross sexual assault charges

Westbrook sports coach arraigned for sexual assault.

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- According to police documents the girl's track coach at Westbrook High School admitted to investigators he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year old student he was coaching.

27-year old Timothy Even made his first court appearance today on 4-counts of gross sexual assault. Even was arrested by Westbrook Police on Monday.

Even was not required to enter a plea today. The state requested bail be set at $50,000 cash. Even’s attorney argued the amount was excessive. The judge agreed and set it at $2500.

According to the police affidavit Even told investigators he had sexual relations with the 17-year-old three times outside at a park in Portland. The age of consent is 16 in Maine, but it is against state law to have sexual relations with a student you have authority over.

In a statement given to police Even wrote “This is a situation that started with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, my lack of professionalism and self-control created a situation that got out of hand.”

Even went on to apologize to the Westbrook School department and all others that have been harmed by this. As far the alleged victim and her family are concerned,  he wrote: “My apology will never be enough.”

Even has been ordered to have no contact with the student or anyone else under the age of 18 and to stay away from Westbrook High School.
