SMYRNA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State police troopers are asking the public for help in locating a driver believed to have caused a hit-and-run crash on I-95 in Smyrna.

Following an investigation, state police said 38-year-old Karen Lewis of Houlton was driving north on I-95 when her car was struck from behind, forcing her vehicle off the roadway and into several trees.

Police said the rear end of her Camry was "completely crushed" by the force of the impact from the other vehicle.

According to Cpl. Chuck Michaud, the other vehicle, believed to be "larger" with "significant front end damage," did not stop once the crash occurred and kept going. He said it is unclear to police at this point why that happened.

Lewis was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

State police are asking for the public's help in locating the other driver. Call 532-5400 if you have information.
