Tractor-car crash sends one to hospital

LIMINGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An early morning tractor-car accident closed Route 11 for several hours Tuesday, said York County Sheriff's Office.

Just after 4:00 a.m, Richard Chaput, age 54 of Limerick, was driving his 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound when he crashed into a Kubota agricultural tractor. The Sheriff's office said Gaeten Palin, 60 of Limington, was driving the tractor and is an employee of Brackett's Apple Orchard. He was driving to spray an orchard when the accident occurred. Chaput did not see the tractor as he followed a turn in the roadway, said York County Sheriff's Office.

Limington Fire and Rescue extricated Chaput from his vehicle and then transported him to Maine Medical Center. His condition is listed as non-life threatening. Officials said Palin was shaken, but didn't require medical attention. The chemicals the tractor was hauling did not pose a threat to the community or environment.
