SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The
aims to highlight different uses of seaweed to celebrate harvesters, farmers, fishermen and processors who play a role in Maine's seaweed industry.
The festival will feature a variety of entertainment, guest speakers and vendors.
Last year, nearly 18 million pounds were harvested in the state, making it a record year for the industry. The value of the fishery has grown from less than $100,000 in 2000 to more than $360,000 in 2014.
The festival is Saturday on Southern Maine Community College's campus in South Portland.
