Tear gas, flash bangs deployed in Dover, N.H. standoff

DOVER, N.H. (NEWS CENTER) -- A peaceful resolution capped a standoff that kept residents of a Dover, N.H. neighborhood out of their homes for hours on Friday morning.

Police were initially called in to try to find the person responsible for stealing a rifle. Believing the same person had broken into a home on Pleasant View Circle, police converged on the area. To keep neighbors safe, they were told to evacuate.

As communication with the person inside the home broke down, police set off tear gas and flash bangs in the hopes of forcing a surrender. Police said they finally got the outcome they wanted but only after the standoff lasted for hours.

Pleasant View Circle and Mineral Park Drive were closed for the duration of the standoff and remained off limits to traffic for a while longer while the investigation wrapped up.
