AUBURN (NEWS CENTER) -- Councilors in Auburn dissolved the commission working to join services between Lewiston and Auburn. Auburn Mayor John Jenkins headed talks of joining services in the mid-1990's. This week he was behind the effort to end the commission studying that idea.

Jenkins says reports in the past have died when presented to Council because councilors were not invested in the research. Now he wants to move forward with the proposals by making the City Council a direct part of the process.

In Lewiston, Mayor Larry Gilbert says it wasn't up to one council to make such a decision. He says his taxpayers will lose $1.3-million each year. That's how much each City was positioned to save by joining services.
