LEWISTON (NEWS CENTER) -- Team Officials say they have not filed any paperwork requesting a move to another City. Sources close to the team tell NEWS CENTER the MAINEiacs are looking to relocate to Canada. Lewiston's Mayor, Larry Gilbert, says it would be a business move if the team leaves. The other league teams are in Canada.
Gilbert says Youth Hockey Tournaments could draw a larger crowd compared to a League Hockey Team. That transforms into more families spending more money in Lewiston.
Firland Management owns the Colisee which is where the MAINEiacs call home. It says the team still has a few years left on the contract with the building and there would need to be negotiations if the team does plan to leave.
The MAINEiacs have until the end of the month to file paperwork to request a move. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will not comment on the discussion.
