GORHAM (NEWS CENTER) -- If you're the type who likes to stay up and watch the ball drop on New Years Eve, this year you have one more option. For the first time, the town of Gorham is hosting its own New Year's celebration. New Year Gorham is the latest edition to the alcohol free celebration list. There will be musical performances, variety shows, a church service, a yo-yo performer and fireworks. Buttons are $5. They give you access to all shows and events and shuttle buses will be provided to and from parking areas. The ball that's dropped in Gorham is not made from Waterford crystal, like the big one in the Big Apple. It has hula hoops, aluminim foil and christmas lights. Miss Teen Maine USA will count down the inaugural drop. Some other Maine cities also have exciting New Year's spectacles of their own. Presque Isle has a 6-foot star with more than 1000 lights on it that will rise above the city on New Year's. Metal fabrication students at Northern Maine Community College crafted the star, which will come up at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. Presque Isle is nicknamed, "The Star City." Meanwhile, an 8-foot, copper sardine will be lowered from the third floor of a downtown building in Eastport. Sally the Sardine has become a ritual for those ringing in the new year in the town where the sun first shines on the U.S.
