The 2.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:26 a.m.
According to Dr. Robert Marvinney, Maine state geologist with the Maine Department of Conservation, small earthquakes such as this happen 6 to 10 times a year across the state.
"Typically, damage does not occur until an earthquake reaches magnitude 5, about 20,000 times more powerful than this morning's earthquake," Marvinney said.
