SCARBOROUGH (NEWS CENTER) -- This isn't the first time voters in Scarborough are debating the idea of bringing slots to town.
This time, there is a promise of building a new community village with senior housing and $8 million to the town every year. Those against the slots said the money sounds tempting, but their community does not need that kind of business. They fear other developers will look down on their town for having slots.
People at Scarborough Downs said harness racing in Maine is dying, and they need the boost to stay competitive. Question One on Tuesday's special municipal ballot in Scarborough would change the zoning of Scarborough Downs to allow slots.
