AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER) -- Hollywood Slots General Manager, Jon Johnson, approached Maine's Gambling Control Board today to change the gambling floors hours of operations.

The gambling floor is currently open from 8 A.M. to 4 A.M. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 A.M. on Sunday. Johnson says that opening the floor four hours later on Sunday is costing the state of Maine and Hollywood Slots a lot of money.

"We are estimating that this is costing us anywhere between $700,000 and up to maybe as high as a million dollars a year in lost revenue and because our tax rate is 50% it's also costing the state of Maine anywhere between $350,000 to half a million dollars a year," Johnson told the board.

Johnson also plans to close the gambling floor earlier. He wants to close slots at 1 A.M. on Monday through Thursday and 2 A.M. on Friday and Saturday.

"We realize the number of guests we have on the gambling floor between the hours of 1 and 4 A.M. on Sunday through Thursday are minimal," he said.

Maine State Police Lt. David Bowler says that Bangor Police have received seven phone calls related to Hollywood Slots in the past month. The Maine Gambling Control Board and Johnson hope that whenever the facility is open it continues to be a safe place for the Bangor community.
