PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- One of New England's most popular bands was honored in Portland Friday afternoon.

Mayor Ed Suslovic presented the Dropkick Murphys with the key to the city at One City Center.

The band was there to play a free show on the patio of the radio station WCYY. They are also scheduled to play a concert Friday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Dropkick Murphys are a band that is familiar to the Red Sox Nation. Their re-make of the song "Tessie" is associated with the Sox's 2004 World Series run. Their song "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" is played whenever Red Sox closer Jonathan Papplebon comes to the mound.
