PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The City of Portland's planning board approved two luxury housing developments this week in Munjoy Hill.
One development will be located at 118 Congress Street. The other will be built on a steep slope of land on Sheridan Street. The densely populated neighborhood has become increasingly popular over the past couple of years, for both young professionals and retired baby boomers looking to move to the city. Residents are keeping a close eye on development, to try to preserve the very qualities that make the neighborhood so attractive.
"We're very excited that Munjoy Hill is suddenly very chic if you will, and that's exciting for us because it's a great neighborhood and we want the world to know that," Munjor Hill Neighborhood Organization President Andrea Myhaver said. 'But we wanted to continue to have this balance where it is a great neighborhood and it's a great neighborhood because you know each other, you're comfortable here, it's not all one or all the other."
The Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Organization is developing a list of criteria it would like to see in future developments on the Hill. The group plans to discuss that list at its February meeting.
