MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Marine patrol has a new toy to play with. They've added a new vessel to its 6-boat fleet on Mount Desert Island.
The 38-foot Dirigo II was christened this morning, replacing a vessel that was built back in the 1980's. With the fishing industry continuing to grow in Maine, Marine Patrol Specialists say this vessel is exactly what they need to keep up and continue with sustainability within the fisheries.
The Dirigo II will be able to take officers further off-shore and pull more gear and provide more stability in bad weather.
Fully outfitted with all of its technology the Dirigo Two was more than $400,000, but officers say it's worth every penny.
