BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Neighbors of a murder victim in Bangor are still shaken up over what happened just feet from their homes.
Brooke Locke, 21 of Bangor, was found dead in her apartment at 166B Essex Street Monday. On Tuesday the medical examiners office determined that she died from strangulation. 21-year-old Zachery Mailloux has been charged with murder in connection to her death and appeared before a judge Tuesday afternoon.
Those who live near the Essex Street apartment said that they had never heard noises before and that Locke and Mailloux kept to themselves.
"This happens all the time here and everybody says that it's a bad neighborhood," said Emily Linehan who lives next door to where Locke was murdered.
Both Mailloux and Locke were students at Husson University.
Grief counseling is being offered at the school's Counseling Service Center for students and faculty who knew them.
