AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage says 44 federally funded employees of the Maine Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management are being temporarily laid off due to the government shutdown.
LePage said Thursday that the department is the hardest hit state agency so far to be affected by the shutdown.
He says unless a resolution is reached to end the shutdown, the state will have to figure out how to proceed with other state employees or programs that are partially or fully funded by the federal government.
