PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A group called Greater Portland Landmarks is calling attention to 7 historic places they consider endangered.
It's a list called "2013 Places in Peril" and includes sites like Fort Gorges, Western Cemetery, and Union Station Clock.
The list was created by soliciting nominations from communities in the greater Portland area, then narrowing them down based on historic significance and severity of threat to them.
For example, the threat to Union Station Clock is that the city just approve the sale of Congress Square Plaza, leaving no plans for the clock's relocation.
Hilary Bassett with Greater Portland Landmarks says the goal of this list is to call attention to these areas and hopefully help jumpstart fundraising or planning efforts to keep these landmarks a part of the community.
2013 Places in Peril:
1. Fort Gorges, Portland
2. Neal Dow House, Portland
3. Western Cemetery, Portland
4. Lincoln Park, Portland
5. Ingraham Carriage Barn, Portland
6. Union Station Clock, Portland
7. South Portland Historic Resources, South Portland
