HOULTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State Police say a man from Houlton has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of two people in Oakfield.
Matthew Davis, 32, was arrested Tuesday at the State Police barracks in Houlton. He was taken there for questioning from the Aroostook County Jail.
Investigators say Davis killed a couple in their home in Oakfield and set their house on fire. The State Fire Marshal's Office says Davis is also a suspect in two other fires -- one at the Katahdin Forest Products facility in Oakfield and another in a pickup truck in Island Falls.
The first victim has been identified as 51-year-old Michael Kitchen and the second victim is presumed to be 49-year-old Heidi Pratt. An autopsy showed Kitchen died multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy and positive identification is scheduled for tomorrow on the victim presumed to be Pratt.
The Maine Department of Public Safety says at this point in the investigation, there is no known connection between Davis and the two victims. Kitchen worked as an automotive mechanic in Houlton. Davis is a carpenter.
Matthew Davis is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday morning.
