JEFFERSON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Jefferson School leaders, parents and community members say they want solutions to the problems plaguing the towns two year old elementary school-- and especially she there is glass in he new ball fields.
The athletic fields had to sit unused until now, to allow time for new grass to grow in. But starting earlier this year, small pieces of glass and ceramic material began appearing in he infield of the softball field, then a larger area of the baseball and soccer field.
Parents and members of a local athletic boosters group say they are very frustrated by this latest problem, as they had been hoping to use the fields this fall. There are many questions how he glass got into the soil for the fields, and Superintendent zest eve Bailey sats they are still waiting for those answers.
Bailey says school staff, the architects, contractors, parents and Mine Department of education will all meet Friday morning to inspect the fields and determine solutions. For the time bing, however, Bailey says the fields will remain closed.
