BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor has attracted some of music's biggest names over the summer. It's when country music comes to town though that things really heat up.
During Wednesday night's concert with country star Kenny Chesney, over 15,000 fans were in attendance. That concert sold out since the spring, no surprise though when you consider the fact that country music is the top rated music format in Bangor radio.
Bob Elston and his wife Marlene, of Clinton, have been playing country music together since the 1950's. They formed the Maine Country Music Association 11 years ago to preserve the genre. Their band, The Road Rangers, still puts on shows every now and then across the state.
"Country music is about life itself," said Elston. "Sitting around the table gathering at family time and this kind of thing that most everybody can relate to."
The couple will be holding their annual Country Grass Festival in Jefferson August 16-18.
