BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Bangor Man is in police custody following a tense standoff on Elm St. that played out late this afternoon.
At about 3:20 P.M. Friday, police responded to a call at 80 Elm St. for a man with a gun threatening suicide.
Police closed Elm Street from Mount Hope Ave to Garland Street.The police stand off lasted for roughly 40 minutes. Right before 4:00 P.M. there was movement and officers running into the back yard where they took 43-year-old Harold Rodgers into custody as he was trying to jump a fence.
No shots were fired.
Police say Rodgers was suspect in a domestic aggravated assault from last night. Neighbors say they were shaken up. One woman we spoke with was just moving in five minutes before this all unfolded.
"They were screaming "get in!" I texted the landlord asking what is going on here, so this is my first experience in the new neighborhood. I feel like Bangor Police Department what the response was that they had and all of that I never really felt scared in all of this," said Pati Thompson.
Rodgers is now being charged with that felony of aggravated assault More charges are likely based on what happened today.
