AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A lobbyist for a medical marijuana trade group will be breaking bread with Maine Gov. Paul LePage after making the high bid at a benefit auction for a dinner for four with the governor.
Medical Marijuana Caregivers of Maine lobbyist Paul McCarrier bid $1,000 at Thursday's auction to benefit the Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund.
McCarrier tells the Portland Press Herald he won't be lobbying LePage. Rather, he says he made the bid on behalf of a group member who's a LePage supporter and has been asking to get him a meeting with the governor.
McCarrier put in the winning bid after other bidders, including Democratic lawmakers, drove the bidding up to $875. When he offered $1,000, nobody made a counter bid.
