BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- It's said that veterans are supposed to be honored for their service yet in recent years more and more are dealing with what they say is a disservice.
Across the country thousands of veterans are waiting to receive pension and medical benefits from the government and a backlog in the department of veterans affairs is to blame. Right now on average some vets are waiting at least four months to collect benefits from the V.A.
The impact of this backlog is being felt not only by them but their families as well. NEWS CENTER spoke with one woman on Thursday who's still waiting to collect benefits that she says her late husband earned.
