(NEWS CENTER) Former Gov. John Baldacci, a Democrat, and former Maine Senate President Rick Bennett, a Republican, are co-chairmen of the Maine chapter of an organization called 'Fix The Debt." The group believes the growing national debt is a serious threat to the security and economic well being of the United States.
They are In The Arena with Pat Callaghan to talk about the debt, the impact it is already having, and what steps need to be taken to address it.
Baldacci also talks about whether he is planning to run for another term the Blaine House in 2014, and reacts to the newly released 2009 videotape of then-Waterville mayor Paul LePage offering harsh criticism of the Baldacci administration for shifting some taxes from the state to the local level. As governor, LePage has now proposed suspending municipal revenue sharing for two years.
Baldacci and Bennett ran against one another for Congress in the second district in 1994. Bennett later served as Senate President for one year, as part of a unique power sharing arrangement between the two parties.
