BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Miller Drug has been filling prescriptions for more than 50 years. Friday was the last day for the man behind the name, Bill Miller.
Bill Miller announced his retirement Friday from the day to day management operations of the store. Miller said his mother first opened the store back in 1939 under the name Freedom Miller Variety. The name was changed a couple of years latter to Miller Cut Rate. Then in 1957 it finally became Miller Drug.
"On August 4th 1957 we threw out the beer cooler, put in a small prescription department and filled our first prescription and have never looked back," Miller said.
According to Miller, the store will still be called Miller Drug, but he is stepping down so he can spend more time with his family.
