SOLON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Directors at Somerset County's only homeless shelter for women and children say they are looking for more public help in getting a new group home built.
Last September directors broke ground on a new building to house the 'New Hope Women's Shelter.' The current shelter has been in use since 2005. Right now it is housing 10 women and two children and can only hold up to 13 people.
Directors say once finished, the new shelter will be able to hold more than twice that amount. Staff say they will also be able to offer more classes and services for women.
Volunteer support helped start construction of the new shelter but directors say they will still need about $150,000 more to finish it.
"We would really appreciate it if people continue to keep us in your thoughts," said Rebecca Philpot, "There are many needy organizations out there and we are just one of many ...We cannot do it though without the donors."
